Fruit Lust

What is noticeable when eating fruits is the physical sensuality of the eaters, which is immediately stimulated: Lips, teeth and tongue are used a lot – often there is a sucking, smacking, slurping, licking with the tongue and that because  the consistency of the fruit flesh or the draining of the juice requires it; but probably not only that. Fruits bribe us with their varieties of sweetness and meat, eating fruits therefore probably has something of pleasure in itself. Usually a bowl protects its luring interior. If this is penetrated with the first bite or removed for consumption and the flesh, chewed and swallowed, the fruit can act comprehensively on the human organism: its taste easily carries us away to the side, to pause from everything and at the same time centers us again by its aroma, the fruit taste is manifold (innumerable variations between sweet, sour and sweet-sour grasp us, often from the same fruit body in surprising taste waves), the fructose flits into the blood and vitalizes, the pectins stroke the intestinal walls and: the eaten fruit delights the psyche (depending also on its degree of ripeness, here we have preferences: some love the banana almost still green at the peel, others mix it only with sugar surplus and already light mud tan into the muesli). The fruit eaters feel either delighted or disappointed by the consumption; there is little room for manoeuvre in between, because whatever the demand is on our favourite fruit, it is expectant of them: Apple, banana, peach and grapes are classics anyway, recently exotics like pineapple or avocado are catching up in popularity.

Isn’t it therefore also the longing for something wild – a term to be thought of with caution, an entity to be handled even more cautiously – that turns to us, that invites us to surrender to form and content when eating fruit? At this point I put it in the room with conviction: Eating fruit is a way to call nature erotically. If one continues to think of what the function of the fruit is, namely its evolutionary meaning, this becomes clearer: it contains within itself the seeds of the respective shrub, tree, etc.. Basically, fruit is thus designed to seduce, if biologically seen also on a completely sober one in the sense of reproduction, and through the deer or the hare or the wild boar this also runs off in such a way, it is eaten and elsewhere the seeds are shredded again and thrive in contact with ground, water and light.

Fruchtlust.
