Lea Beckmann (Germany, Ireland) was born in Stade, Germany, in 1997 and moved to Ireland to pursue her degree in both Theatre Studies and Italian at the National University of Ireland, Galway. Work and studies brought her previously to the UK, China, the US and Italy. She has been writing on experiences of living abroad in columns, stage plays and recently poetry.

Kai Bleifuß (Germany) lives in Göppingen, Germany. He holds a PhD in modern German literature. He writes prose and essays and has garnered several literary prizes and stipends. He published several novels and short stories, most recently: Träumen im Steilhang. Geschichten in Bildern, Freiburg i. Br., Germany 2019. Dr. Bleifuß has been a co-editor of the multilingual literary and art magazine ARIEL and the e_zine ARIEL-ART since its very start in 2019.

Yevgeniy Breyger (Ukraine, Germany), born in Ukraine 1989, emigrated to Germany and studied at the University of Hildesheim, the German Literature Institute Leipzig, and the Städelschule Academy of Fine Arts in Frankfurt am Main. In 2016, he published his debut volume flüchtige monde (kookbooks), which was selected as one of the poetry books of the year (Literaturhaus Berlin) and as one of the best poetry debuts of the year (Haus für Poesie). In 2019, he won the Leonce and Lena Prize of the city of Darmstadt. His second book of poetry, gestohlene luft (kookbooks, 2020) was supported by grants from the German Literature Fund and the Herrenhaus Edenkoben. In 2020, Breyger was a fellow at the Schriftstellerhaus Stuttgart. In 2021, he received a project grant from the Hessische Kulturstiftung. He currently lives and works in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

Jana Beranová (Czechoslovakia, Netherlands) was born in Pilsen in 1932. In 1948 she fled with her parents to the Netherlands and studied economics in Rotterdam. Later she became known through Czech writers and poets, including Milan Kundera and Nobel Prize winner Jaroslav Seifert. She authored a novel and seven collections of poetry. She is a member of the international P.E.N.

Alessandra Brisotto (Italy, Germany) was born in a town in the Veneto (Italy), studied literature, linguistics, philosophy and psychology in Venice and worked as a writer and language teacher in Italy, France and Germany. She currently lives in Darmstadt and works as an Italian teacher and poet. She has published several volumes of poetry and a novel. Her work appeared in Italian and German.  Brisotto has been a co-editor of the multilingual literary and art magazine ARIEL and the e_zine ARIEL-ART since its very start in 2019.

Elia Bürgener (Germany) was born 2000 in Heidelberg, Germany, is now living in Bayreuth, Germany, where he is studying Philosophy & Economics – the former of which almost exclusively in English. The most noteworthy stops on his not yet very long journey through language and literature have been living in the US for a year to study and further language skills and also having worked in strategic communication at AUDI.

Ingo Cesaro (Germany) was born in 1941, he lives in Kronach, Upper Franconia, Germany as a writer, art printer, publisher and literary organizer. His multiple collaborations with painters and graphic artists resulted in many bibliophile editions, artist books, graphic-text folders, graphic-text calendars, single-sheet prints and exhibition projects. Together with composers and musicians he organizes projects like Jazz & Texte, minimalmusik & Dreizeiler, Vertanzte Gedichte and Saxophon & Lyrik. He uses the only mobile hand press, as it was known from Gutenberg´s times. Because his hand press is mobile, all results are created on the fly, there is no workshop in Kronach. Cesaro is constantly on the road with his old hand press and attends workshops, where he immediately typesets and prints the poems created. As an author Cesaro devotes himself primarily to poetry and especially to short poems in the three-line syllable format 5-7-5. He garnered numerous prizes and published several poetry books, most recent: Dein Herz verbrante nicht. Das Fanal von Jan Palach (édition trèves, 2019) and Sehnsucht nach Stille (Freipresse Bludenz 2021). In January 2021, Cesaro joined the editorial board of ARIEL-ART.

Nathalie Eckstein (Germany) was born in 1994 in Wuppertal, Germany. She studied philosophy and literature at the universities of Bamberg and Bonn; at the same time she worked at various German municipal theaters and in independent projects. Since October 2020, she studies at the German Literature Institute Leipzig. Her first publication Wurzeln is to appear in bella triste 59 (Hildesheim).

David Eisermann (Germany) has been a radio host and author of the WDR3 cultural radio channel for 20 years. Since 2018 he is the chairman of the Literaturhaus Bonn and a lecturer at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität. From 1978-79 he received a DAAD scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh (film studies, comparative literature); from 1981-84 he worked on his dissertation at the University of Bayreuth („Identity in Africa“). He published the monograph Crèvecoeur oder Die Erfindung Amerikas, CMZ-Verlag (1985) and the DVD Propaganda Swing: Dr. Goebbels‘ Jazz Orchestra (Amazon). He translates from French and English (including White Jazz by James Ellroy) into German. In September 2020, he was one of the first signatories of the Appeal for Free Debate Spaces, a call for free speech and opposing Cancel Culture.

Amadé Esperer (Germany) is the founder and editor-in-chief of the multilingual literary journal ARIEL and the e_zine ARIEL-ART. He is a multi-award-winning multilingual poet, flash fiction writer, essayist and literary translator. He writes in English, French, German Hebrew and Italian. He authored four poetry books and numerous essays on poetry. His work has been translated in various languages, such as English, French, Hebrew, Hindi and Romanian. He edited several lyric anthologies. Most recently he translates contemporary Hebrew poetry, and published several anthologies with translations of the late work of Yehuda Amichai. In 2018, he founded the Würzburg Amichai Poetry Readings, which he has since directed on an annual basis under the patronage of the city of Würzburg.

Jan Esperer (Germany, The Netherlands) is a multilingual composer and artist. He studied composition for film and theater at the ArtEZ Conservatory in Arnhem, Netherlands. Still being a student, he already composed music pieces for film students and various universities, such as L.M.U. Los Angeles, Berlin, Scotland and Aachen. He has since maintained a close connection to the Dutch musical theater scene and regularly composes, produces and arranges music for contemporary plays. In 2015 he produced and composed the music for the Berlin fashion label „Steinrohner“ and their exposition at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, in 2016 he produced and composed the music for the designer Sandra Zomer´s multi-award-winning fashion show „Illusive Mind“ and her fashion show at B.I.F.T. in Beijing (Peking). In 2016 he composed a piece for the Matangiquartet, well known in the Netherlands, and two pieces for the „Ereprijs“ Orchestra. Since 2019 he has been regularly composing music for the Utrecht based theater production company „Kira Kool.“ He composed the theme music for the current ARIEL-ART anniversary issue.

Patricia Falkenburg (Germany) was born in 1961; she is a molecular biologist, poet and visual artist; she writes in German and English and holds a PhD in philosophy and a PhD in molecular biology. She is affiliated with the German society of contemporary poetry, the Cologne-based writer’s group FAUST, GEDOK Cologne and the PEN supporting group (Freundes-&Förderkreis). Adrien Finck (France), 1930 – 2008, was an Alsatian writer and university professor. In 1973, after his studies in Straßburg and Paris, he was appointed Professor of German and Alsatian literature at the University of Straßburg. His specialty was Alsatian literature. He also published studies on Georg Trakl, Friedrich Hoelderlin and Rainer Maria Rilke. He wrote poetry himself and translated poetry by colleagues from German into French. Finck was a member of the Deutschen Akademie für Sprache und Dichtung, and an editor of Revue Alsacienne de Littérature; he was awarded the Oberrheinischen Kulturpreis (1983) and the Johann-Peter-Hebel-Preis (1992).

Rüdiger Fischer (Germany) was a translator and book publisher, who died in 2013. He translated from French into German and published numerous titles, mainly bilingual poetry, in his publishing company “Verlag im Wald”. As a publisher Fischer has introduced the work of quite a few German poets to the French reader. Fischer´s publishing house also published many poets from Belgium, Poland, Luxemburg, France, the USA and the Czech Republic.

Gabriele Glang (USA, Germany) is a German-American citizen; she was born in 1959 in Arlington, Virginia, USA. After studies in English and Media Studies she worked as an editor and graphic designer in the editorial business and published two volumes of poetry. In 1990 she moved to Germany where she lives to the very day in Geislingen. Gabriele Glang also works as a painter and offers workshops. In the meantime, she not only publishes German poetry, for which she was awarded grants from the Förderkreis deutscher Schriftsteller Baden-Württemberg, but also writes screenplays in English and German. In 2017 her poetry book Göttertage on the painter Paula Modersohn-Becker was published.

Julia C. Graney (USA) was raised bilingually in English and German. She lives in Chicago, Illinois, USA, and holds a diploma in English, German, and French literature. She spent a longer period of time in Europe, particularly Germany and France, to complete her language studies. She is also fluent in Spanish and interested in Hebrew, Yiddish and Russian literature and poetry. She has been teaching German and French, most recently also to immigrants and refugees, and is currently working as a free-lance translator and editor for various American companies. Johanna Hansen (Germany) has studied German and Philosophy at the Rhenish Friedrich Wilhelm University in Bonn. She first worked as a journalist and teacher. Since 1991 she is active as an author and painter; since 1993 she had numerous exhibitions and since 2008 literary publications, most recently: Zugluft der Stille (Offenes Feld, 2020). Stefan Hölscher (Germany) born in Hildesheim, lives near Heidelberg. Josef Hrubýwas (Czechoslovakia) was born 1932 in Cernetice, South Bohemia. He studied at the Film Academy in Prague and was director of the district library in Pilsen. After the hard- core communistic turn, he lost this position and was banned from publishing. Later he worked in the field of monument conservation. Hrubý Was a member of the board of the Czech P.E.N. and Chairman of the Center of the West-Bohemian Writers‘ Union. He published numerous volumes of poetry and translated many poems. On 19. 7. 2017 he passed away in Pilsen.

Annie Jauffret-Nennich (France, Germany) was born and growing up in Southern France near Toulon at the Côte d’Azur. After high school and during her studies she came to Germany for a practical training at a Gymnasium in Middle Franconia. Annie has a diploma of Alliance Française and worked as a teacher in Germany at various Universities, high-schools and adult education centers. She translated for the Bezirk of Mittelfranken and was active within a French-German city partnership. She has been a committed member of the Soirées Littéraires activities within the French-Franconian association in Nuremberg (U.F.F.).

Elizaveta Kuryanovich (Russia, Germany) was born in Saint Petersburg and currently lives in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. She studied Mathematics, Philosophy and Linguistics. She writes poetry and short stories in German, Russian and English. She translated Ilma Rakusa’s work into Russian. She is a member of the QUEERL network of queer poets. Walter Lang (Switzerland) was born in 1957 in Rusiwil, Switzerland, he obtained a training as primary school teacher, followed by studies of music in trombone, music pedagogy, and musicology. His main occupation is a teacher position for music at a grammar school.

Yitzhak Laor (Israel) is a poet, novelist, essayist and literary critic. He was born in 1948 in Pardes Hannah and is now living in Tel Aviv. Laor holds a PhD in theatrical art. In 1982, with the outbreak of the Israeli Lebanon War, he was among the first and most active protestors against the war. Laor authored ten volumes of poetry, three novels, three collections of short stories, two collections of essays and one play. His play Ephraim Returns to the Army was banned by the state censor. Eventually, following a legal process, the Supreme Court obviated the Censor’s decision in 1987, and as a consequence, the censorship on theatre was abolished a year later. Laor ended up victorious, yet outside the world of theater was deemed “too extreme for us.” Nevertheless, he was awarded several prestigious poetry prizes, among them the Yehuda Amichai prize, The Prize of the Prime Minister, the Noah Moses Prize for Literature, the Bernstein Prize, and the Kugel Prize. Laor has been on the editorial board of the multilingual literary and art magazine ARIEL and the e_zine ARIEL-ART since its very start in 2019.

Colette Laplace (France) lives in Paris, she holds master’s degrees in German studies and conference interpreting, and a PhD in translation studies: She is a professor emerita at Paris Sorbonne Nouvelle, where she was teaching consecutive and simultaneous interpretation, translation theory and supervising doctoral theses. She also was a freelance interpreter for the French government, big companies, and cultural institutions.

Fabian Lenthe (Germany) was born in Nürnberg in 1985, where he still lives. Since 1996 he published poems in various literary magazines and anthologies. He was an Assistant Professor at the Institute of English and American Studies and chaired the Language Department at the University of Regensburg until he retired in October 2019. Sława Lisiecka (Poland) was born in 1947 in Lodz, she studied German and worked for some years as a teacher of German at grammar schools and colleges and as a lecturer at Lodz University. She is a freelance translator since 1975 and translates prose, popular scientific books, dramas and poetry. Among the about 50 books she translated are books by Peter Härtling, Thomas Bernhard, Juli Zeh and others. She also translated poems by Gottfried Benn, Hans Magnus Enzensberger and Ingeborg Bachmann, as well as dramas by Günter Grass, Rainer Maria Fassbinder, Elfriede Jelinek, Georg Tabori and others. Every now and then she translates books of philosophic or cultural historic interest, such as Ludwig Wittgenstein, Martin Heidegger and Hans Mayer. In communist Poland she published in underground magazines, among others, poems by Wolf Biermann. On some translations she worked together with her husband, the poet Zdzisław Jaskuła. Her work was honored with German, Austrian and Polish prizes.

Michael Lösel (Germany) was born in 1957 and lives in Nuremberg. He is a draftsman, guitarist, composer, chansonnier, author, actor and publisher. He holds a master’s degree in literary studies, sociology and political science. From 1977 to 1994 he set poems to music, which were written at the time of the revolution between 1789 and 1848, for his folk group „Wunderhorn“. He organizes readings for literary newcomers and performs as a chansonnier after „Nine Eleven“. In 2008 he initiated the „Textarena“ and has been moderating it since. Since 2010 he is the director of the “Poetisches Theater” that, in 2016, received a culture award from the city of Nuremberg. He is on the board of the „Pegnesischen Blumenorden e.V.“, directs the annual competition „Goldener Blumentopf“ and edits the literary magazine „BLATTWERK“. Zdeněk Mareček (Czechoslovakia) was born in 1956. He works as a professor of German at Brno University, he specialized in German literature in Bohemia, Moravia, Slansk and Germanoslavica. His MA thesis was on Hölderlin (Die Aufnahme Hölderlins in der tschechischen Literatur). His PhD thesis is based on social history and about the author Emil Hadina (Emil Hadina (1885-1957). Zum literarischen Leben in der Provinz.) Mareček has translated from German into Czech, among others, two volumes by Josef Mühlberger (Die Knaben und der Fluss, Wo ich daheim war) and has supervised several theses on this author.

Lu Mazen (Germany) is an explorer of the visible and invisible. Having travelled and worked in numerous countries, including as North America, Mexico and Europe, Korea, Nepal, Japan, China, Vietnam and Mongolia, she now lives and works in Germany. Since 2001 she has been working on photography and had numerous exhibitions in Germany and abroad. She currently focuses on fine art photography and on still lives. She was Px3 bronze winner (2015), 3. Prize winner of the Alzey-Worms Art prize in 2016 and is regularly invited to many national and international exhibitions.

Sandra Meek (USA) lives in Rome, Georgia, USA. She holds a BA in English and MFA in Creative Writing and a PhD in English, Creative Writing. She is Co-founding Editor of Ninebark Press, Director of the Georgia Poetry Circuit, Poetry Editor of the Phi Kappa Phi Forum, and Dana Professor of English, Rhetoric, and Writing at Berry College. She has authored six poem books, most recently: An Ecology of Elsewhere (Persea Books, 2016) and Still (Persea Books, 2020). She is a winner of the Dorset Prize (Tupelo 2008); Burn (2005), and Nomadic Foundations (2002), as well as a chapbook, The Circumference of Arrival (2001). She is also the editor of the anthology Deep Travel: Contemporary American Poets Abroad (Ninebark 2007), which was awarded a 2008 Independent Publisher Book Award Gold Medal. Werner Nennich (Germany) was born in 1956 and grew up in Naila, Upper Franconia, Germany. He studied at the universities of Würzburg and Munich German language and literature, theology and geography. He obtained a degree for teaching. Moving a lot in his life he lived in Nottingham, UK, Aix en Provence, France and in different towns of Bavaria. He worked as a teacher but also as a social worker, export correspondent and works council member. All his life he has been writing short lyrical prose and poetry. Seasons and nature are preferred subjects but also the individual existence within time. In 2018 he finished being a private writer only. Currently, he is working on a collection of different poetic sketches entitled Der Bahnhof der Zeit. Halyna Petrosanyak (Ukraine, Switzerland) was born in Ukraine in 1969. Since 2016 she has been living in Swiztzerland. She authored four poetry collections in Ukrainian. In 2007 she garnered the Hubert Burda Literaturpreis für osteuropäische Lyrik, in 2010 the Ivan Franko Prize, Ukraine. Her work has appeared in numerous journals and anthologies, among these Lichtungen. She also writes prose.

Kerstin Römhild (Germany) is an artist, painter and photographer, who discovered photography through traveling. In recent years, her work has increasingly focused on the graphic alienation of images, reduction, and the creation of collages, which allow the images to appear in a new context and lead the viewer into a world of fantasy.

Yoav Sapir (Israel, Germany) was born 1979 in Haifa and has lived in Germany since 2006. He studied German-Jewish History and Literature in Jerusalem, Vienna, Heidelberg and Berlin. He works as a certified translator from Hebrew into German and vice versa, as a journalist for the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”, “Aus Politik und Zeitgeschichte”, “Die Welt”, the Jewish weekly “Jüdische Allgemeine”, the magazine “Jüdische Zeitung”, the publishing house “Spektrum der Wissenschaft” and the Israeli newspaper “Maariv”. He is a public speaker for various German and Jewish institutions, such as “Deutsche Welle”, Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, the German-Israeli Society, the Goethe Institute, the Jewish Community of Berlin, the Federal Agency for Civic Education and others. He also works as a literary translator from Hebrew into German and vice versa. Currently he is working on the translation of a book about the poet Paul Celan.

Lea Schlenker (Switzerland) was born in 1992. She is a Swiss poet based in Zurich. She has published her poetry and short stories in various magazines in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy. Her first poetry book Eine Auswahl an Fluchtmöglichkeiten was published in 2020 (aphaia Verlag). She is currently working on her first novel.

Horst Spandler (Germany) holds a diploma in German philology and Anglistics. He lives in Burgthann near Nürnberg, Germany. He was a teacher at a secondary school in Neumarkt, where he taught German, English and Ethics and is retired now. His translation of Jack Kerouac’s Scattered Poems was published as Verstreute Gedichte (Stadtlichter Presse, Berlin 2004).

Tina Stroheker (Germany) was born in 1948 in Ulm. After graduating from Munich University (German Studies, History and Political Science) she took up teaching at “Gymnasiums” (High Schools). Since 1983 she has been working as a free-lance writer. She has won several prizes and awards, among them the Villa Massimo Award (1986/7), the Literaturpreis of the City of Stuttgart (1992) and the Andreas-Gryphius-Preis (2017). She has travelled widely, with residential stays in Europe and in the USA. T.S. has published about 20 books, including poetry, literary prose and essays. She has been the driving force in establishing a regional writers’ group and literary projects: Bilingual poetry-readings, revivals of almost forgotten writers, literary seminars and the exhibition Poetenweg in Eislingen. T.S. is a member of the German Writers’ Association (Verband deutscher Schriftstellerinnen und Schriftstellern) and the German P.E.N.-Center.

Verica Tričković (Macedonia, Germany), born 1961 in Nerav, Macedonia, Poet, editor and translator, has been living in Germany since 1999. She has published the poetry collections Lokvanj i pelen (2007, Serbian), Als rettete mich das Wort (2011), Im Steinwald (2016), both bilingual Serbian-German. She edited and translated the anthology of German-language poetry          sám mrmor sam, Nemačka lirika 1999 – 2019 (OKF Cetinje, Montenegro, 2021). José Luis Gómez Toré (Spain) born in Madrid, 1973, is a Spanish poet and essayist. He has published several poetry books, most recently: Se oyen pájaros (2003), He heredado la noche (Ed. Gabriel Wolkenfeld (Germany) was born in Berlin in 1985; he studied German and Russian literature in Potsdam and Tallinn. Wolkenfeld works as a teacher of German as a foreign language. He offers writing workshops for young people and is a project manager in the field of youth exchange. Since 2013 he has been publishing poetry and prose in anthologies and literary journals. In 2015, he published his debut novel Wir Propagandisten (Männerschwarm Verlag). His first collection of poems Sand oases is to appear soon (Verlag der 9 Reiche).
